Is Outlook, or Windows Live Mail asking for your password?

This happens on occasion.  You have been using Outlook for years with no trouble and, suddenly, one day, it asks for your password. Because Outlook stored your password way back when you set it up you may not even remember that you had a password.  Or you may remember your password but typing it in doesn't make it stop asking.

Don't worry.  Most likely the password isn't needed.  When Outlook or Windows Live goes to check for new email, and it can't contact your provider's server, it pops up asking you to put in your email password.  If you haven't changed this recently that isn't the problem.  The confusion comes from the fact that it will pop up regardless of the problem.  Even if the problem is that your computer isn't connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to troubleshoot:

1)  If it's been a while just restart the computer and see if that takes care of the problem.
2)  Check to see if you are on the internet by going to a webpage.
3)  Go to your email provider's website and try to log in there.  If you can, you know the password is            good.
4)  If the above worked but you still can't use Outlook it is probably a problem with your provider's
server.  Wait up to an hour and try again.
5)  Still doesn't work?  Contact your provider to see if they have changed any of the connection
     settings,or call us to help.

Please be patient - we will work fast

We are a bit unusual in the computer world as we, ALMOST, always answer our phones, we start work on computers the same day and communicate with our clients regularly.  That being said, we can't always get things done in the time you want.  Lots of factors in repairing a computer make it take longer than you may expect.  Additionally, sometimes, when you call, all three of us may be on the phone or with a client.

When things are busy or your machine is taking longer than expected here are things to help us as well as help you:

1)  Leave a message.  If I didn't answer it isn't because I am ignoring you.  It's because I am working with someone else and giving them the same level of attention you want, when it is your turn.  Hanging up and calling back several times will not get things done quicker.  If you leave a good message It may even speed up our conversation.

2)  On messages:  Please be as detailed as possible.  That way, if, when calling you back, I get your voice mail, I may be able to give you suggestions to get things moving faster.

3)  Be patient.  If, when you bring the machine in, we tell you we will start right away, it doesn't mean that we will be finished the same day.  We usually give you an idea of when we will be done.  Before the quoted time is up we will update you on the status.  If we are working on diagnosing we won't call you till we have the answers.
