It starts with you having some little issue with some program on your machine. It doesn't matter what program. You do the smart thing and search the internet for an answer. One of the things that comes up is a site that looks like the manufacturer with a free 800 number to help.
MOST of the time this is a fake. Usualy they will convince you to let them on your computer and they will point out lots of errors. Then they will quote you to fix them.
First, the error section that they show you is common on all computers. Second no manufacture is going to offer to get on your computer when it is out of warrenty.
If you find a repair offer that looks like the manufacture, look at the web address? If the first part of the email isn't the actual manufacturer's name you know that it is a fraud. If you think it may be legitimate, go to that companie's web site and confirm that the same number is avaliable there.
